Phosphorus, Zinc & Sulfur Contribution Calculator

Calculate the phosphorus, zinc and sulfur an additive (e.g. ZDDP) adds to a finished oil — for API SP / ILSAC limit checks.

Enter treat rate and at least
one element content.

Formula & Methodology
Straight mass balance from the additive's element content: finished element (wt%) = treat rate (wt%) ÷ 100 × element (wt%) ppm = finished element (wt%) × 10,000 e.g. 1.2 wt% ZDDP at 8.0% P → 0.096 wt% = 960 ppm P

Element contents come from the additive TDS (typically by ASTM D4951 / D5185). API SP and ILSAC GF-6 cap phosphorus at ~600–800 ppm (0.06–0.08 wt%) for most low-SAPS passenger-car grades — confirm the exact category.
