What Is the JASO FB/FC Two-Stroke Engine Oil Additive Package (PA2200)?
CheMost PA2200 is a two-stroke engine oil additive package built to JASO M345 FB and FC, formulated for air-cooled two-stroke engines. It is a brown red liquid carrying 0.55% calcium and 0.9% nitrogen — the calcium detergent and nitrogen-based dispersant content assayed on its datasheet, the combination two-stroke oils need to stay clean while burning as part of the fuel charge.
PA2200 targets the full air-cooled two-stroke range — motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, watercraft, chainsaws, lawn mowers and other air-cooled two-stroke equipment. It is supplied as a concentrate; the blender still adds a defoamer, pour point depressant, thickening agent or viscosity index improver depending on the base oil and target grade (see Formulating With PA2200 below).
For four-stroke motorcycle and small-engine oils, see the companion API SL 4T motorcycle engine oil additive package (PA4400).
How PA2200 Works in a Two-Stroke Engine
Calcium detergency
Two-stroke oil burns alongside the fuel charge, so detergent chemistry is generally kept at low metal levels: high-ash chemistry is commonly associated with combustion-chamber deposits and pre-ignition. PA2200 assays at 0.55% calcium, which is consistent with that low-metal approach.
Dispersancy
0.9% nitrogen is consistent with ashless dispersant chemistry, which is commonly used to keep combustion by-products suspended in the oil film rather than agglomerating into deposits on the spark plug or in the exhaust port.
Clean, low-smoke combustion
Because the oil is consumed with the fuel, formulation chemistry directly affects exhaust smoke and exhaust-port blockage — the two properties JASO FB and FC are built to control.
JASO FB vs FC — Which Level to Choose
JASO M345 defines FB and FC as two performance steps for air-cooled two-stroke oil, two performance levels within the same JASO M345 classification:
| JASO level | Treat rate | Typical duty |
|---|---|---|
| FB | 4.0% | General-performance air-cooled two-stroke engines; FC raises the exhaust-system blocking and detergency requirements above FB |
| FC | 5.7% | Higher-performance engines that benefit from reduced smoke and tighter exhaust-system deposit control |
JASO performance is a property of the fully formulated finished oil, not of an additive package on its own. PA2200 is used in formulations targeting JASO FB and FC; final qualification depends on your base oil and complete additive slate.
PA2200 Applications in Two-Stroke Equipment
Motorcycles & scooters
Air-cooled two-stroke motorcycle and scooter engines.
All-terrain vehicles
Two-stroke ATV engines with the same premix-lubrication demands as two-stroke motorcycles.
Watercraft engines
Two-stroke watercraft engines, listed among the applications on the PA2200 datasheet.
Chainsaws, trimmers & small equipment
Chainsaws, lawn mowers and other handheld or walk-behind two-stroke equipment.
Suitability varies with the base oil used — confirm your formulation with our technical team before production blending.
PA2200 Treat Rate for JASO FB and FC
PA2200 is published at two treat rates, one per target JASO level:
| Target JASO level | Treat rate | Ca contributed* | N contributed* |
|---|---|---|---|
| FB | 4.0% | 220 ppm | 360 ppm |
| FC | 5.7% | 314 ppm | 513 ppm |
Treat rate is a starting point tied to your base oil and the rest of your additive slate. Matching suitability varies with the base oil used — confirm your formulation with our technical team before production blending.
Formulating With PA2200 — What You Still Need to Add
PA2200 is an additive package, not a fully formulated additive system. Additional functional additives — defoamer additives, pour point depressants, thickening agents or viscosity index improvers — need to be added during use. The exact selection depends on the base oil and target grade:
Viscosity index improver
Needed to reach the target SAE grade. See EPM or liquid OCP — the choice affects shear stability and the final VI.
Defoamer
Where foam control is needed, see PDMS silicone defoamer.
Pour point depressant
Whether one is needed depends on the base oil and low-temperature target. See polymethacrylate (PMA) pour point depressant.
Thickener, where specified
Whether one is used depends on the fuel-mix ratio and viscosity target being built.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is JASO FB/FC and how is it different from API classifications?
JASO M345 is the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization’s classification for two-stroke gasoline engine oils, covering lubricity, detergency, exhaust smoke and exhaust-system blocking — the properties that matter when oil is burned with the fuel charge. It runs alongside, not in place of, API’s four-stroke gasoline categories, which cover a different lubrication design.
What is the difference between JASO FB and FC?
Both are JASO M345 performance levels for air-cooled two-stroke oil. FC adds tighter control of exhaust smoke and exhaust-system deposits on top of what FB requires, which is why PA2200 is published at a higher treat rate for FC (5.7%) than for FB (4.0%).
How much PA2200 is needed for a JASO FC two-stroke oil?
5.7% of the finished oil for FC, or 4.0% for FB. At those treat rates the package contributes roughly 314 ppm and 220 ppm calcium respectively. Final treat rate should be confirmed against your specific base oil and additive slate.
What else has to be added besides PA2200?
Additional functional additives — defoamer additives, pour point depressants, thickening agents or viscosity index improvers — need to be added during use. Which ones you need depends on your base oil and target grade. PA2200 is an additive package, not a fully formulated additive system.
What engines is PA2200 suitable for?
Air-cooled two-stroke engines across motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, watercraft, chainsaws, lawn mowers and other air-cooled two-stroke equipment. Matching suitability varies with the base oil used — confirm your formulation with our technical team before production blending.
